Underweight women had as much as a 60 percent higher chance of infertility than those of normal weight, and obese women were three times more likely to be infertile. The results have been replicated time and again in the world. Both over- and under-weight women may face menstrual and hormonal imbalances leading to decreased chances of getting pregnant. For many thin women, just gaining about five kilos and some body fat are enough to increase their chances of conceiving. As far as over-weight women are concerned, losing five kilos can restore hormonal balance and thus improve fertility. If you’re a die-hard exerciser and are having trouble getting pregnant, you should at least reduce the number of hours you spend running or working out. In such cases, a fertility specialist might recommend a modified exercise plan. Over-exercise can be detrimental for would-be fathers as well. Spending hours on end on a bicycle seat, for instance, may cause impotence by cutting off blood flow to the penis.
